PROJECT
Roadmap for action on evidence-based risk communication in the EU Food Safety System
A PROJECT FOR: European Food Safety Agency (EFSA)
BRIEF
The
Challenge
In 2021 the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) published a report that provides a thorough overview of the status quo of risk communication in the EU food safety environment across a range of key areas.
The report identified several areas in which EFSA should generate scientific research on risk communication to advance the field and to help EFSA to reach its objectives.
The four areas highlighted were:

-
countering disinformation in the context of food
-
efficiency of transparency initiatives like public consultations
-
risk communication in relation to consumer trade-offs of risks and benefits
-
the link between risk perception and behaviour in the context of food.
FOCUS
The
Approach
Across the four research areas, we are helping EFSA to develop research roadmaps to advance the evidence-based and risk communication practice across the EU Food Safety System.
To develop the roadmaps we are first doing an evidence review and a large-scale stakeholder consultation exercise to gather detailed insights. Using those insights we will propose future projects to address the evidence gaps identified in the first stage.
Finally, we will undertake a prioritisation exercise (using a PESTLE analysis) to identify the highest impact projects to be included within the roadmaps.
Our role
PredictBy is involved in all areas of the project.
PredictBy are acting as the technical project manager for the project, meaning we are intellectually overseeing the project from start to finish.
In terms of individual tasks, we are leading the literature review and working alongside our partner Intellera, to undertake the stakeholder consultation exercise.
